Filing an uncontested divorce in Pomona

Last updated October 18, 2026. Legal text approved by the attorney on October 18, 2026.

A person who lives in Pomona files a divorce petition at Pomona Courthouse South, 400 Civic Center Plaza, Pomona, CA 91766, a courthouse in the East District of the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. The court's Filing Court Locator gives that answer in its Family Law column for every Pomona zip code it returned, including the CAL POLY POMONA row, and for 91766, 91767 and 91768 its Unlimited Civil and Restraining Orders columns say the same, which is not true of every city in the county. This page is about Pomona and that courthouse: what the locator says zip by zip, the local rule that also allows a filing in the Central District, the courthouse's hours, telephone, parking and offices as its own page states them, the Self-Help Center on its 7th floor, how e-filing works from here, and what the court's judgment rules mean when the case is assigned to Pomona. The county page covers the court's thirteen family law courthouses, its fee schedule and the five steps; this page does not repeat it. Law Offices of Rozsa Gyene prepares and reviews every document for a Pomona filing, and you file it at this courthouse with filing instructions written for it.

Every Pomona zip code files at Pomona Courthouse South

Two fields drive the locator, City / Community and Zip Code, and its instruction is to enter either or both and click search. Queried on October 18, 2026 with 91766, 91767 and 91768, and again by the city name, it returned Pomona Courthouse South in the Family Law column every time. The results page prints four columns, and for 91766, 91767 and 91768 the first three (Unlimited Civil, Family Law, Restraining Orders) agree: Pomona Courthouse South for an unlimited civil case, for a family law case and for a restraining order alike. In Glendale, Burbank, Torrance and Norwalk the two columns do not match, so a Pomona filer is spared a question that matters elsewhere in the county. A divorce petition follows the Family Law column in any event.

The locator's answers, in its own words, were these:

  • POMONA (91766): Pomona Courthouse South.
  • POMONA (91767): Pomona Courthouse South.
  • POMONA (91768): Pomona Courthouse South. The same zip code also returns a second row, CAL POLY POMONA (91768), with the same answer.
  • A query by the city name alone adds 91769 and 91799, each with Pomona Courthouse South in the Family Law column.

What the locator warns about, and why it still matters in Pomona

The locator carries three cautions, and each of them is printed on the search page or the results page rather than buried in a rule. The first concerns mailing addresses, which, in the court's words, "may not be a proper indicator of true geographic location." The second sends the reader to Local Rules Chapter 2 for the assignment criteria and cautions about "adjustments in caseload distributions in the San Fernando Valley and East Los Angeles areas, and in the North Central District"; that caution does not name Pomona. The third is on the results page itself: the courthouse shown "will normally be the location where a case from the selected zip code and community would be assigned, unless Local Rule 2.0 specifies a different location," and at a street boundary "the boundary of the district is the centerline of that street."

For a Pomona client the intake records the courthouse and the locator's answer for the home address, and the office confirms that courthouse before the petition is drafted; every listed Pomona zip returns the same one, and the petition's caption, the summons and every later document name it.

The East District, and the Central District alternative under Local Rule 2.3

Under Local Rule 2.2(a) the court has twelve geographic districts, Central, East, North, North Central, North Valley, Northeast, Northwest, South, South Central, Southeast, Southwest and West, with the boundaries drawn on the maps in Appendix 2.A to the rules. Rule 2.2(b) lists the court locations where sessions are held within each district, and for the East District it names Pomona Courthouse South, 400 Civic Center Plaza, Pomona, CA 91766. Chapter 2's pages, in the edition the court serves as current, carry the footer Local Rules, Effective January 1, 2022; rule 2.2's amendment line ends January 1, 2022, and rule 2.3's ends July 1, 2018.

Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B) is the rule that fixes where a family law case may be filed. It says an unlimited civil or Family Code action "may be filed in the Central District or may be filed in a district other than the Central District," and its family law line reads: "Family law (all matters under the Family Code), where one or more of the parties litigant reside." The rule thus lets a Pomona divorce start in the Central District, where family law means 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 (Stanley Mosk), or in the district where either spouse resides; for the Pomona spouse that district is the East District, with Pomona Courthouse South. The office prepares the petition for the courthouse the client names, and the filing instructions name it.

Two further parts of rule 2.3 bear on the choice. Under rule 2.3(a)(1)(D), nine Northwest District zips (91301, 91302, 91303, 91304, 91306, 91307, 91326, 91361, 91367) must take family law matters to Central or the North Valley District; Pomona has none of them. Under rule 2.3(b)(4) the Family Law Supervising Judge may move a case to another district, on a motion made in Department 2, Central, not at Pomona. Neither rule comes into play for an uncontested Pomona case filed where the locator points.

Once filed, the case is heard on a direct calendar. Rule 2.11 makes each Family Law Division court a direct calendar court, with one judicial officer for all purposes. Pomona Courthouse South has no master calendar or case management department of its own in the Family Law Departments Directory; the Stanley Mosk Courthouse has both (Departments 215 and 426), which is one practical difference between those two courthouses. For a person who chooses Central, the index of the court's courthouse directory carries this notice: beginning May 4, 2026, the court "will introduce a new department (courtroom) numbering system at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse."

Whichever district is chosen, a Pomona filing carries two local forms: LACIV 109, the Civil Case Cover Sheet Addendum and Statement of Location, which rule 2.3(a)(1)(E) attaches to an action presented for filing in any district and which a self-represented filer signs; and FAM020, the Family Law Case Cover Sheet, which rule 5.2 requires with the petitioning spouse's first paper. Both are in the set the office prepares, as is every other document you file.

Pomona Courthouse South: hours, telephone, parking and offices

The court's own directory page for Pomona Courthouse South, opened on October 18, 2026, gives the address as 400 Civic Center Plaza, Pomona, CA 91766. Its hours line: "The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the Clerk's Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Except Court Holidays." The telephone number the page prints is (909) 802-1100, and the Judicial Council's self-help finder prints the same number for its Pomona Courthouse South entry. For parking the page has one sentence: "Public parking is available in the lot on 7th St., located on the south side of the courthouse."

The General Directory at 400 Civic Center Plaza names, among the offices a divorce filer meets, the Family Law Clerk's Office, the Self-Help Center/Family Law Facilitator Office, Family Court Services - Evaluation, Family Court Services - Mediation, the Domestic Violence Clinic and the Children's Waiting Room, beside civil, criminal and juvenile offices. It gives office names only, without rooms or hours; the court's Self-Help Center Locations document supplies the self-help room, 7th Floor, Room 730.

The Family Law Departments Directory, in the edition dated October 1, 2026, shows five departments under East District: B, C, D, J and K, each marked General FL. The directory lists no restraining-order department, no dedicated trial court and no master calendar department at Pomona, unlike some of the court's other courthouses. When the divorce is agreed in writing, none of the five is a place you expect to stand, because the judgment is entered on paper.

Self-help at Pomona Courthouse South

Room 730 on the 7th Floor of 400 Civic Center Plaza is Pomona's entry in the Self-Help Center Locations document (rev. 10-06-2025), which lists Pomona with the centers offering "In person services with Protective Restraining Orders, Family Law Cases, Eviction Answers, and CARE Petitions." Its printed hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For a question that needs no visit, the document prints the Self-Help Call Center, (213) 830-0845, with weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Not every center in the county takes family law questions: the document marks Inglewood and Santa Monica as no family law and Norwalk as CARE assistance only. Pomona carries no such limit.

Walk-in help, the court's self-help website says, "is available on a first come, first served basis and is subject to availability. Spaces fill up quickly." On scope it is plain: "We can help you complete your court forms and educate you about court procedures. We do not provide legal advice." The Judicial Council's guide to court-based self-help says "every superior court in California has free legal help available in family law and in small claims cases," and its finder shows Pomona Courthouse South at (909) 802-1100 with an empty hours field.

The General Directory lists the Facilitator and the Self-Help Center under one entry, Self-Help Center/Family Law Facilitator Office. On the court's Facilitator page the office "assists self-represented parties with child support, spousal support and health insurance issues," and "The staff does not give legal advice nor does it represent a party in a case or at a hearing." Local Rule 5.23 lists the Facilitator's duties: mediating child support, spousal support and health insurance issues with litigants, drawing up stipulations, advising the court, and, when neither party has a lawyer, preparing the orders.

The court has posted two fillable judgment packets for an agreed divorce, one for couples with minor children and one for couples without; the one without children is marked Rev 5/2025. The packet states its own condition for use: "You and your spouse or partner must agree on all issues of the case." To fill in the caption, its completion sheet asks "What courthouse was your case filed?" and notes that this may be different than the courthouse where a trial was held; for a Pomona case the answer is Pomona Courthouse South. The site's divorce workshop runs in three parts, the last for a petitioning spouse finishing a default judgment.

These cases are outside the flat fee here as anywhere in the county: a case with minor children, a contested case, a business, a pension that needs its own order, real property outside California, a legal separation or an annulment, and a spouse who cannot be found. The Los Angeles County Bar Association Lawyer Referral and Information Service, at 213-243-1525, can refer you to a family law attorney.

E-filing from Pomona, and the appointment scheduler

Family law e-filing in this court runs under General Order 2022-GEN-009-00 of April 13, 2022. Its opening recital: from November 15, 2021, attorneys representing family law litigants must file every document electronically. Section 3(a) then carves out "self-represented litigants," who "are exempt from mandatory electronic filing requirements." Because the office's role is rule 5.425 drafting without any appearance, the order counts you as self-represented, and you may file on paper at the Pomona Clerk's Office or electronically through a provider, as you choose. Proposed judgments lost their exemption on April 18, 2022, which concerns those who must e-file and not you.

If you choose to e-file from Pomona, the order's terms apply. Section 6(a) calls for a PDF in text searchable format. Under section 6 the filer redacts confidential information; the order's own examples are a minor's initials and the last four digits of a Social Security number. A document arriving electronically at any moment of a court day, from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59:59 p.m., is filed that day if the court accepts it (section 7(a)). Under section 12, a litigant holding a fee waiver pays no e-filing fees or costs. Section 5(b) has court generated documents served from an email resource account to the address registered with the provider, one account per family law courthouse; this courthouse's is listed as Pomona South Courthouse: PS-FLNotification@lacourt.org. A notice from that account is the court's, about a Pomona case.

Appointments with the clerk's office can also be made online. On its Schedule Appointment with Clerk's Office page, every courthouse carries a string of appointment-type codes, and Pomona Courthouse South at 400 Civic Center Plaza carries CIV CRM FL JVDEP JVJUS. The code FL appears for Pomona but not for every courthouse, and the page does not define it, so this page says only that it appears. The filing instructions for a Pomona case name the courthouse and whether you file on paper or electronically.

The court's site has one more statement about delivery, and it is limited. Under Local Rule 5.3(a)(2)(B), ex parte papers may be presented to the Clerk's Office of the district courthouse to which the case is assigned through the Clerk's Office's resource account, by fax filing, by drop-box filing or by physical delivery, with an advance appointment necessary for physical delivery. The rule governs ex parte applications, and an agreed divorce makes none; no page read states a Pomona drop box for a petition or judgment packet, and none is claimed here.

The judgment packet at Pomona Courthouse South

One set of judgment-packet rules, in Chapter 5 of the Local Rules, covers every family law courthouse in the county; here is what it means for a case assigned to Pomona. Local Rule 5.17 lists what is submitted for a default or uncontested judgment: the Declaration for Default or Uncontested Dissolution; the Request for Default or the Appearance, Stipulation and Waiver form, whichever applies; the original and three copies of the judgment, of which the court retains the original and one copy; and two self-addressed, stamped envelopes with the court's address as the return address. Some issues need a hearing under the rule unless the spouses have settled them in writing. A defaulting party who signs the judgment must have that signature notarized, and filing fees will not be required from a defaulting party that has signed a judgment. The office does not provide a notary; the spouse whose signature needs one arranges it.

Reserved issues resolved by stipulation can go to the court with no appearance (rule 5.16(b)). Rule 5.3 refers to "the Clerk's Office of the district courthouse to which the case is assigned," which for a Pomona filing is Pomona Courthouse South. None of the court pages read on October 18, 2026 says anything about the packet that is particular to Pomona.

Your declaration is enough for the judgment, and no hearing is needed (Family Code section 2336; California Rules of Court, rule 5.409). The court's Divorce Overview chart of June 2011, which its self-help site still links, adds two sentences worth reading together: "The Preliminary and Final Declarations of Disclosure are not filed with the court but are served on the other spouse," and "In a small number of complex situations, a hearing is required even for a default divorce." The first matches Family Code section 2104, under which the disclosure is served between spouses rather than filed. Were a hearing ever set in a Pomona department, remote appearance is available court-wide: "In all Family Law departments and hearing types, the Court has remote video and audio courtroom appearance technology via LACourtConnect (LACC)," in the words of the Family Law Division page. The office does not appear at it.

Under Family Code section 2340 the judgment names the day the marriage ends, and section 2339 sets that day at least six months past the date your spouse was served or appeared; FL-107-INFO counts the earliest as six months plus one day. Filing at Pomona Courthouse South rather than in the Central District changes nothing about that period, and nothing on this page shortens it. The residence rule of Family Code section 2320 is six months of California residence and three of Los Angeles County residence for one spouse before the petition, and a Pomona address counts like any other in the county.

What the office does for a Pomona filing, and what it costs

Law Offices of Rozsa Gyene prepares and reviews every document in your case for a flat fee, in a limited scope engagement under California Rules of Court, rule 5.425: $599 for a summary dissolution, $999 for a joint petition, $1,499 for an ordinary petition. You file the documents at Pomona Courthouse South, or in the Central District if you choose it, with written filing instructions for that courthouse, reviewed by the attorney before they are released to you. The office does not file, does not serve, does not appear in court, and does not provide a notary. It does not prepare or record deeds; where a deed is needed to carry out the agreement, a title company or another attorney prepares and records it.

You pay the court's fees to the court, apart from the office's fee; the county page itemizes them, and a joint petition, by Family Code section 2342.5(h), pays both first-paper fees, $870, which the Judicial Council's Statewide Civil Fee Schedule effective January 1, 2026 lists at item 99.

The office represents one spouse only. Your spouse is not a client, is not advised by the office, and may consult an attorney of their own choosing. One revision round of the settlement agreement and the first correction of a judgment packet the Pomona clerk returns are included in the flat fee; a further round is quoted before any work is done. The flat fee is earned stage by stage as the documents are prepared, and whatever has not yet been earned is refunded if the representation ends before the judgment.

The addresses, hours, telephone numbers, rules and forms on this page come from the court's own pages, PDFs and portals and from the Judicial Council's self-help pages, all read on October 18, 2026; the list of sources follows.

Common questions

I live in Pomona. Where does my divorce petition go?
Pomona Courthouse South, 400 Civic Center Plaza, Pomona, CA 91766. The locator's Family Law cell named it for 91766, 91767 and 91768, the CAL POLY POMONA row included, and for 91769 and 91799 in the search by city name. Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B) also allows Stanley Mosk in the Central District, or the district where your spouse resides.
Does a family law case from Pomona go to a different courthouse than a civil case?
No. For 91766, 91767 and 91768 the locator's Family Law, Unlimited Civil and Restraining Orders cells all name Pomona Courthouse South. In some other cities, Glendale and Norwalk among them, the columns differ and a divorce petition follows the Family Law column; in Pomona there is nothing to reconcile.
What are the hours at Pomona Courthouse South?
Building, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Clerk's Office, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Monday through Friday, closed on court holidays, according to the court's page for the courthouse. The telephone number is (909) 802-1100.
Where do I park at Pomona Courthouse South?
The court's page says public parking is available in the lot on 7th St., on the south side of the courthouse.
Does Pomona Courthouse South have a self-help center?
Yes, on the 7th Floor, Room 730, per the Self-Help Center Locations document the court publishes, which lists family law cases among the matters it helps with in person. Its hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., first come, first served. The Self-Help Call Center, (213) 830-0845, is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center helps with forms and procedure and does not give legal advice.
Is Stanley Mosk an option instead of Pomona Courthouse South?
Yes. Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B) lets a Family Code case begin in the district where either spouse resides or in the Central District, so from Pomona the choices include 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 (Stanley Mosk) and Pomona Courthouse South. The office prepares the petition for whichever you name, and the court's courthouse directory carries a notice about new department numbering at Stanley Mosk beginning May 4, 2026.
Do I have to e-file from Pomona?
No. The general order binds attorneys and exempts self-represented filers, and limited scope drafting by the office leaves you self-represented. You may file on paper at the Pomona Clerk's Office or electronically through a provider. Electronic filings must be text-searchable PDFs, redacted of confidential information, and the order waives e-filing fees and costs for a person with a fee waiver.
What is PS-FLNotification@lacourt.org?
The email resource account General Order 2022-GEN-009-00 lists for Pomona South Courthouse in section 5(b). Court generated documents in an e-filed family law case are served from the courthouse's account to the email address registered with your filing provider, so a message from that account about a Pomona case comes from the court.
Does the Pomona clerk's office take appointments?
The court's clerk-appointment page (Schedule Appointment with Clerk's Office) lists Pomona Courthouse South with the codes CIV CRM FL JVDEP JVJUS. FL is listed for Pomona and not for every courthouse; the page does not define it, so this page says only that it is listed.
What goes in the judgment packet for a Pomona case?
Rule 5.17 sets one list for the whole county. It includes the Declaration for Default or Uncontested Dissolution, the Request for Default or the Appearance, Stipulation and Waiver, the judgment with three copies, and two self-addressed, stamped envelopes with the court's address as the return address. A spouse who never responded but signs the judgment has that signature notarized and is charged no filing fee.
Does an agreed Pomona divorce need a court appearance?
Not when the divorce is uncontested and the agreement is in writing: section 2336 and rule 5.409 let the judgment be entered on your declaration. The 2011 overview the court still links adds that in a small number of complex situations a hearing is required even for a default divorce. If one were ever set, LACourtConnect remote appearance is available in every family law department, according to the Family Law Division page.
Does living in Pomona change the six months?
No. The marriage-ending date in the judgment (section 2340) comes no sooner than six months after service or appearance (section 2339), six months and one day by FL-107-INFO's count, whatever the courthouse. Section 2320 looks at California and county residence only (six months and three), so which city in the county is irrelevant.
